El Ter. A Biography
After projects such as “Let it flow” and “Translating from the shore“, I remain uneasy and unsettled by the collective imagery that we, the residents of the Ter river basin, maintain in relation to this river. In response to this concern, and following a commission, I embarked in 2023 on the writing of the book The Ter: A Biography. After three years of conversations and extensive writing, accompanied by editor Mireia Lite, the book was published in September 2026. We have summarized it as follows:
How does one write the biography of a river? What words are needed to tell its life story? The Ter: A Biography recounts the journey of a biographer who sets out to write the life of the river that flows through her town. To do so, she submits herself to an enchantment that opens her perception to the many forms of existence inhabiting the Ter basin: a pebble, Pic de la Dona mountain, a goat, a cluster of false daffodils, a calf, a pair of caddisfly larvae, a mayfly, mists, and a few ghosts.
As she travels along the river’s course, the Biographer ventures into the challenge of narrating the existence of a millennia-old being whose nature surpasses every boundary she knows. Through imagination, reflection, and scientific knowledge, The Ter: A Biography unfolds an exploration of what all living beings share and of the relationships that connect us.
