Reading with the Sun
2025
Brass mobile.
Presented as part of the “Libraries on Fire” cycle, curated by Francesco Giaveri, in different libraries in Palma de Mallorca. The mobile was installed in the Aurora Picornell library.
Created with the collaboration of Cristina Martin (Mava Joies, Vic).
Sometimes, when reading under the Sun, this star interrupts me. It illuminates the page I’m looking at so brightly that I have to close my eyes because I’m dazzled. When I close them, I see shiny, abstract shapes that somehow remind me of what I was seeing on the page of the book a few seconds before. Maybe the Sun knows and this is its way of communicating with me, of telling me what it thinks of what I’m reading. The shiny shapes could be letters in the solar language.
I drew all the ones I saw while reading “Dissegnare il sole”, by Bruno Munari, and I designed a mobile phone with them. It shines and reflects light, in the same way that happens with the pages of books when the Sun illuminates them on an August afternoon.
